New Hotel and Medical Centre to be built in Phuket

Tuesday, 1st June 2010

Villa Medica (Thailand), a subsidiary of the residential developer Nusasiri, has invested 400 million baht ( approx 9 million pounds)  to build a boutique resort and hospital in Phuket.

The company's vice-president Siriya Thepcharoen said the medical complex and resort project was being developed on a 136-rai plot in Phuket about 15 kilometres from Phuket International Airport. Construction is nearly 30% complete and the site is scheduled to open in April next year.

The resort called Villa Medica will offer alternative medicine, conventional medicine, surgery, spa therapy as well as rehabilitation. It will have 172 boutique resort rooms on 76 rai and the remaining plot will hold other facilities including a two-storey hospital.

The company will hire a hospital chain to manage its hospital. It has two candidates under consideration and expects to make a decision in the coming months.

"We chose Phuket because foreigners recognise Phuket is now the medical hub in this region," she said.

With the success of its first medical centre in Bangkok, the company feels there is massive potential in medical treatments. According to its survey, its customers spent 30,000 to 40,000 baht monthly for their health treatments and about 70% of the customers who visit its medical complex are regular customers. Moreover, its customers spent at least 70,000 baht annually on their health.
